Ageless Lessons from Mick Jagger: Staying Positive and Purposeful

A few takeaways from a recent interview with The Rolling Stones.

If you missed Anthony Mason’s interview with The Rolling Stones that aired October 16th on CBS Mornings, please go back and find it. You won’t be sorry. Even if you’re not a Stones fan (which is hard for a classic rock superfan like me to imagine), you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how many valuable life lessons they packed into the nearly seven-minute segment.

In an attempt to pinpoint three primary takeaways from this interview (although there were more), I’d say:

1) Age is clearly just a number.

Have you seen Mick Jagger perform lately? At 80 years old, he still has more energy and stage presence than most twenty- and thirtysomethings I’ve seen— proof positive that Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera knew exactly what they were singing about in Moves Like Jagger.

2) Adversity can breed resilience and strength.

No one would argue that Mick Jagger’s life has been free of challenge and controversy. His well-documented baggage includes drug abuse, infidelity, run-ins with the law, and more recent health issues. He’s endured divorce, breakup, and…
