I love everything about this -- thank you for sharing! The pacing of your words served as a nice reminder for me to slow down today as I was getting too worked up about the simplest of things. Calling out how summers with our kids go by too fast struck a chord as I try to enjoy what I fear will be my last summer with any of mine in the house. I even decided to make him a nice dinner for when he gets home from work. I also love that you're focusing on your writing -- and especially enjoy the picture of Story Genius, one of my favs. I think it's cool that you're getting ready to share your novel with others. Push against those nerves -- I think you'll find so much value in getting feedback from others. I joined a critique group this past year (after being very private about my work) and I'm learning so much through that experience.
