If You’re Stuck at the Bottom of the Query Rollercoaster, Hang Tight!

Trying to land a literary agent is hard. If I’ve learned anything over the years, it’s that rejection is part of the process. And at least for me, a BIG part.

Although hearing “no” after “no” after “no” stings, I refuse to let it break me. The pursuit of a traditional publishing contract has become somewhat of an obsession, and with every query that ends in a “Thanks, but no thanks” response, I’m typically challenged to send another one right away.

Until this last time.

I recently received a rejection that could have done me in. I hate to admit that, but I’m taking it harder than any of the others. I share the timeline here for anyone who can relate—for anyone who keeps plugging away and might be getting discouraged now and again. You’re not alone. But the only way we’ll ever succeed is to keep at it and never give up. Here’s the backstory:
