Ten Tips on How to Make Healthy Choices While Dining Out
Day Six of my journey toward better health and wellness
Today was tough. While I’m successfully over the hump in completing half of the ten-day experience I’m participating in, the arrival of the holiday weekend presented some challenges, including going out to eat at a restaurant.
We were joining friends, so I gave them the heads up — I was staying away from processed food, so we needed to choose the restaurant accordingly. And I was a “no” if they wanted to share a bottle of wine. Not today. No more alcohol for five more days.
I thought I made good choices in ordering asparagus, roasted mushrooms, and a beet salad. From the descriptions, they appeared healthy. But when I returned home later, my body told me otherwise. My stomach was gurgling, and I quickly understood that whatever was in the sauce on those vegetables wasn’t agreeing with me. After five days of eating nothing but whole foods, my body was reacting to what I assume was lots of butter and/or sugar.
Healthy eating is important to maintaining your overall well-being. But it can be challenging to maintain a healthy diet when eating out at a restaurant. The temptation to indulge in high-calorie, high-fat, and high-sugar foods can be overwhelming, and most times you’re not…
