Thanks for your insight. One of my recent articles sparked a lot of negative comments (in addition to many positive ones). It's made me uncomfortable as some people came on really strong, calling me names that I don't believe were deserved. Honestly, it made me so anxious, I stopped reading the comments altogether for awhile, but I was fascinated by how much attention it drew (and how the article became my highest earner in a long time). I've spent way too much time reflecting on whether I was wrong to write it and why so many readers took away something entirely different than I had intended. But now I'm being stubborn and leaving it posted--at least for now. This experience clearly supports the idea that if you write about something controversial, you'll increase your chances of becoming a top writer on Medium, but it comes at a price. I'm still not sure my skin is thick enough for it!
