The Magic of Water

Day Three of my journey toward better health and wellness

Today I’m thinking about water. To be honest, the challenge to drink a half gallon every day didn’t scare me, even when I misread The Experience email and thought that it said a full gallon instead of half.

I consume a lot of water anyway. Other than coffee, it’s the only beverage I drink regularly. But this 10-day experience has me wondering why. I’m sure somewhere along the way someone told me it was good for me, so I just believed it and complied. Now I’m curious about the reasons that so many people stress its importance. The importance of water in our daily lives is as vast as the ocean — way too immense to explore all at one once. But here are some thoughts about what I consider the benefits of water:

Water hydrates.

More than half of your body is made up of water, and keeping it hydrated is critical to maintaining good health and wellbeing. That’s obviously why the general rule of thumb is for the average healthy person to drink four to six cups of water daily. There’s no one-size-fits all rule, however, and everyone’s recommended daily water intake is personal to their circumstances. Other…
